AC Milan<\/a> are set to offer Davide Calabria<\/a> a bumper new contract after his fine run of form for the Serie A leaders.<\/p>\n

Set for Big Pay Increase<\/h3>\n

The Italian right-back has played in all 21 league games for the Rossoneri<\/em> this season, chipping in with two goals. Calabria has been a star performer for Stefano Pioli’s side, and the club want to reward him by securing his services on a higher wage, according to reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n

His current contract runs until June 2022, meaning talks in the near future were already expected. It’s believed his fine form has forced Milan into action.<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old currently earns \u20ac1.2 million, including bonuses, but it’s expected this could rise to around \u20ac2 million a year. The deal is likely to be offered at the end of the season and is dependent on their finishing position.\u00a0 It will keep Calabria at Milan until 2025.<\/a><\/p>\n

A Late Bloomer<\/h3>\n

Calabria is a product of the famed AC Milan academy, joining the club back in 2006. He played in every age group and has been involved with the first team since his debut against Atalanta<\/a> in May 2015.<\/p>\n

In 2017, Milan signed Andrea Conti and he became the first-choice right back. The club attempted to persuade Calabria to join a lower-ranking Serie A<\/a> team in order to develop himself. He refused and chose to work for his place at his boyhood club.<\/p>\n

Early in that 2017\/18 season, Conti suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury, which then reoccurred in March 2018. Whilst the circumstances were unfortunate, it allowed Calabria to make 30 appearances that season.<\/p>\n

He has struggled to ever become a key player for Milan over the years. However, this season has been in stark contrast to the previous five or six for Milan. They sit top of Serie A after 21 games, two points ahead of Inter Milan<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The team is full of young and energetic players such as Calabria, Rafael Leao, Franck Kessie and Sandro Tonali. This coupled with the experience of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Mario Mandzukic<\/a> and Simon Kjaer means Milan have a real shot at the Scudetto<\/em> this season.<\/p>\n

Calabria is expected to feature for Italy more heavily in the coming fixtures. So far he has represented the Azzuri at every age level, but just twice for the national team. This recent form and new contract suggests Calabria is finally fulfilling his potential.<\/p>\n
