League One strugglers AFC Wimbledon have signed former Tottenham Hotspur<\/a> striker Shayon Harrison<\/a> following his release from Dutch side Almere City.<\/p>\n

Harrison Looking to Add Goals to Struggling Wimbledon Side<\/h3>\n

AFC Wimbledon have struggled for goals this season and will be hoping the arrival of Harrison can help solve that problem. Only five sides have scored fewer than a Dons side that sit just one point above the relegation zone.<\/p>\n

Having come through the ranks at Tottenham, Harrison made just one senior appearance for the club during his 12-year tenure. Loan spells as Yeovil Town and Southend United were followed up with a stint in Australia at Melbourne City, where he scored four goals from 11 appearances.<\/p>\n

Following his release from Spurs, Harrison joined Dutch second division side Almere. In 18 months, the 23-year-old has netted eight goals from 33 outings.<\/p>\n

The Dons will be hoping that he can find a similar vein of goalscoring form as he did for the Tottenham U23 side where he scored an impressive 26 times from 50 appearances.<\/p>\n

Interim Manager Mark Robinson said<\/a>: \u201cIt was a signing that was in the pipeline before I got asked to be Caretaker Manager.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cJoe called me and said there was a chance of still bringing him in. I didn\u2019t know a lot about Shayon, but I looked at clips – not that you are going to see any negative clips of anyone – and we do need another forward option.<\/p>\n

“Glyn and Nick had done their work on him before, but I wanted to speak with Shayon before we signed him. I had a long chat with him and you can only base it upon what you know, but we need more options, so we\u2019ve signed him.<\/p>\n

“He’s had his first training session with us, and he seems to have a really good character, which is very important, so that\u2019s where it stemmed from.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cHe was one of those players who was thought of as having really high potential. For whatever reason, it didn\u2019t quite happen for him, but he went abroad and did well. It\u2019s a great opportunity for him: we will give him the support he needs and it\u2019s up to him to grab his chance.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Harrison added: \u201cI\u2019m very excited to be here. I\u2019ve played in League One and League Two before and my priority was to come back to England.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m at a stage in my career when I need to be playing as much as possible and getting the opportunity to come here and play for such a great club with great history is delightful.<\/p>\n

“The lads and the manager have really welcomed me into the group and I\u2019m looking forward to helping the team out as much as I can.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
