Oliver Mintzlaff, the CEO of RB Leipzig<\/a>, has revealed via Sky Germany<\/a> that the Tottenham Hotspur<\/a> Stadium, alongside Budapest, has been discussed a potential venue to host RB Leipzig v Liverpool.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

The official decision will be made on Monday. One thing that is for certain, however, is that the game will not take place in Germany due to travel restrictions in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This left UEFA and Leipzig with no choice but to find a neutral venue to host the first leg, with both Budapest and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium discussed as options.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tottenham Stadium Among Venues Discussed for Leipzig v Liverpool<\/span><\/h2>\n

Liverpool’s Form Suggests They Would Prefer London<\/span><\/h3>\n

At the time of writing, every away game that Liverpool have won this season has been in London with wins against West Ham<\/a>, Tottenham, Chelsea<\/a> and Crystal Palace.<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The fact is, when Liverpool are asked to put in a performance in the capital, they often do. Against Palace, they scored seven; against Spurs, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, they scored three; against Chelsea, the Reds netted two, and, most recently against West Ham, they sealed a 3-1 victory.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

So from a Liverpool standpoint, the option to play the first leg in London will be the preferred venue. As for Leipzig, they’ll be frustrated by the enforced venue change with their home advantage now taken away due to the restrictions in place.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

COVID-19 Beginning to Disrupt the Season<\/span><\/h3>\n

Throughout the season, we have already seen plenty of games left disrupted by the damage done by COVID-19. Now, as the Champions League approaches, it is causing even more damage.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The damage is predictable, however, when considering the risk of travelling around Europe right now. The game between Leipzig and Liverpool is the first to be disrupted; several more could yet follow.<\/span><\/p>\n
