Chelsea<\/a> defender Thiago Silva<\/a> will begin negotiations over a contract extension with Chelsea in the coming weeks, according to Fabrizio Romano<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Thiago Silva Expected to Sign One-Year Contract Extension at Chelsea<\/h2>\n

Thomas Tuchel Wants Silva as Part of His Chelsea Plans<\/h3>\n

Chelsea’s board are confident defender Thiago Silva will extend his stay in West London, with the new Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel, placing faith in the veteran leader.<\/p>\n

The ex-Paris Saint-Germain<\/a> captain joined the Blues in the summer<\/a>\u00a0after his deal at the <\/span>Parc des Princes expired at the end of the 2019\/20 season.<\/p>\n

Silva initially signed a one year deal with the Premier League club, with the option to extend for another season.<\/p>\n

Silva Settling into Role With Chelsea<\/h3>\n

Whilst suffering a shaky start to life in England, Thiago Silva has found his feet and the 36-year-old has helped transform the Chelsea backline.<\/p>\n

After equalling their worst ever goals conceded tally in the previous campaign, the addition of Silva has helped tighten up their defence.<\/p>\n

At the mid-way point of the 2020\/21 season, only Manchester City<\/a>, Tottenham Hotspur<\/a> and Arsenal<\/a> have shipped fewer goals than Chelsea in the Premier League<\/a>.<\/p>\n

His form helped Chelsea cruise through tricky Champions League<\/a> group-stage, setting up a last 16 tie with La Liga<\/a> leaders, Atletico Madrid.<\/p>\n

Injury Not Expected to Impact New Silva Contract<\/h3>\n

Despite hobbling off the pitch and picking up a muscular injury<\/a> in a recent victory against Tottenham, any injuries to the Brazilian aren’t expected to affect any contract renewals.<\/p>\n

Having amassed 20 appearances and two goals already at Chelsea, Silva has demonstrated how important his experience could be in a youthful Chelsea side.<\/p>\n

Since the departures of club legends like John Terry, Frank Lampard and Ashely Cole, Chelsea have struggled to fill the leadership void left behind.<\/p>\n

The nous and leadership qualities Silva can bring to the Chelsea squad could prove invaluable to Tuchel, especially given the already established relationship between the pair.<\/p>\n
