Dele Alli\u2019s failed transfer window<\/a> move to Paris Saint-Germain <\/a>means the young midfielder is left at Tottenham Hotspur<\/a> with a chance to resurrect his career. The player has been frozen out for much of the season by manager Jose Mourinho, starting just one Premier League match with a total of 75 Premier League minutes from four appearances.<\/p>\n

What Dele Alli\u2019s Failed Transfer Window Move Means for England Midfielder<\/h2>\n

\u2018Clear The Air\u2019 Meeting Confirmed by Jose Mourinho<\/h3>\n

Dele Alli joined Tottenham from Milton Keynes Dons on February 2, 2015, and quickly became a fan favourite with his skill and goals – such as his incredible strike against Crystal Palace<\/a> in January 2016. Yet in 2021, Alli has found himself in \u2018clear the air\u2019 talks with Mourinho, as reported by Sky Sports.<\/a><\/p>\n

Mourinho said: “I think we found a very common ground, let’s say. It’s an important period of the season for the team, and for him also. We need him, we need a good Dele Alli<\/a>. We are just waiting for him to be back to normality, training with the team.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mourinho has been at pains in recent weeks to make it clear that recent omissions against Liverpool<\/a> and Brighton & Hove Albion <\/a>were due to injury and nothing else, but what does Alli need to do to ensure his Spurs career is resurrected?<\/p>\n

Start Scoring Goals Again<\/h3>\n

Alli needs to start getting on the scoresheet again. In his second season in the Premier League, he played 37 times and scored an impressive 18 goals. The following season he played one game less and his goals decreased by 50 per cent<\/a>. In the subsequent two seasons, he made 25 appearances and scored five and eight goals respectively. The latter tallies have not been good enough and he will need to find the net again if he is to cement his place back in the Spurs squad, let alone the starting line-up.<\/p>\n

When Mourinho says that \u2018we need a good Dele Alli,\u2019 it is his goals that are a large part of that. With Harry Kane<\/a> injured this could be the perfect time for Alli to make his comeback.<\/p>\n

Alli Needs to Overcome Injury First<\/h3>\n

Mourinho has added, though, that \u201che needs to recover from his injury.\u201d<\/p>\n

What the Spurs manager then said presents a clear idea of what Alli needs to do to claim his Spurs career back as his own.<\/p>\n

“A conversation doesn’t make miracles, it doesn’t put a player in good form. But I believe the conversation was maybe the extra motivation he needed to be back as soon as possible and become available for the team.”<\/p>\n

Without saying so outright, it doesn\u2019t take much analysis to look at this statement and feel that Mourinho is suggesting Alli must improve his attitude and work harder to return to fitness as well as form once he is back in the fold.<\/p>\n

Hard Work<\/h3>\n

The comments from Mourinho suggest that Alli now has his chance to show what he can do once he recovers from injury and he must now prove that his attitude is committed to the club, his manager and to proving that he is the class act he showed himself to be when he first joined the club back in 2015.<\/p>\n

Mourinho expects his players to give everything in every game and any sign of deviating from that desire is given short shrift. Alli\u2019s failed transfer window move will have frustrated the player but he now has the opportunity to turn that frustration into high-quality performances on the pitch once more.<\/p>\n
