Wycombe Wanderers<\/a> goalkeeper David Stockdale<\/a> signed on loan for League Two side Stevenage<\/a> \u2013 hours before making his debut for the club.<\/p>\n

The 35-year-old joined the Chairboys<\/a> on a permanent deal this summer. However, he is yet to make an appearance for the Buckinghamshire-based side.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday Wycombe confirmed that they had allowed him to join Stevenage<\/a> on an emergency loan. It was announced just a few hours before he took to the pitch for his new side.<\/p>\n

David Stockdale Makes Stevenage Debut<\/h2>\n

Much-Needed Addition of Experience<\/h3>\n

The goalkeeper is no stranger to English football fans, after a career spanning 16 years. After moving to Stevenage, he has now represented the same number of clubs.<\/p>\n

Stockdale was at the peak of his powers in the middle of the last decade. Much of his career has been spent in the Championship, though for a couple of seasons he made a number of Premier League<\/a> appearances for Fulham<\/a> and Brighton.<\/p>\n

After leaving the Seagulls for Birmingham on a free in July 2017, a series of loans followed. After Southend United<\/a>, Coventry City and two separate spells with Wycombe, he joined Gareth Ainsworth’s side permanently<\/a> last summer.<\/p>\n

Ryan Allsop is number one there, though, and a first-team opportunity has yet to present itself for Stockdale. So when Stevenage came calling desperately needing a quick loan, Wycombe were happy to oblige.<\/p>\n

Stevenage Forced Into Immediate Stockdale Debut<\/h3>\n

An ankle injury to Boro’s regular stopper Jamie Cumming forced the loan move. After agreeing to join the Hertfordshire side, Stockdale was thrust straight into the action as Alex Revell named him in his starting XI against Exeter City.<\/p>\n

He will be disappointed to have been on the losing side. Rory McArdle scored the only goal of the game to secure a win for the Grecians, as Boro’s seven-game run of home games without defeat in League Two came to an abrupt end.<\/p>\n

It was Stevenage’s lack of creativity which led to the loss, rather than any errors from Stockdale. In fact, the debutant almost created his side’s best chance. A long ball forward after catching a corner very nearly put Matty Stevens through, but opposition goalkeeper Jokull Andresson was alert.<\/p>\n
