Manchester United<\/a> defender Marcos Rojo<\/a> is set to join Argentinian club Boca Juniors<\/a> for an undisclosed fee.<\/p>\n

The 30-year-old is set to return to his native Argentina to end seven years in England at Old Trafford.<\/p>\n

In a United career ravaged with injury, the defender signed in 2014 under Louis van Gaal after performing well at the World Cup. He signed from Sporting Lisbon<\/a> for a fee of \u00a316 million.<\/p>\n

Boca Juniors are set to have beaten competition from Newcastle United<\/a> and Sheffield United<\/a> to return to South America and link up with former teammate Carlos Tevez<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Rojo, who spent last season at Estudiantes, struggled for game time under Solskjaer\u2019s tenure, being limited to 45 minutes for the under-23s.<\/p>\n

During his press conference, Solskjaer confirmed<\/a> his departure. He said: \u201cIt’s likely that Marcos goes back to Argentina, a little bit of paperwork left to be done, I think. Sergio, I’ve not heard anything there apart from that he’ll be with us for the rest of his contract.”<\/p>\n

Having fallen down the pecking order with the Norwegian manager preferring to give chances to youth with Axel Tuanzebe<\/a>; the versatile defender was kept in the Red Devils 25-man squad, however.<\/p>\n

The 30-year-old defender, who can play at both centre-back and left-back made nine appearances last season before the coronavirus pandemic hit. His last appearance in a United shirt came in the 3-1 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion<\/a> in November of 2019.<\/p>\n

Rojo becomes the latest player to leave Old Trafford as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continues to trim down his squad. Jesse Lingard completed his move to West Ham United<\/a> on loan until the end of the season, while Odion Ighalo<\/a> returned to parent club Shanghai Shenhua<\/a> after his loan expired.<\/p>\n

The transfer will go through past the deadline as Argentinian clubs can sign players until the February 19.<\/p>\n
