Rochdale<\/a> have announced that they have completed the signing of midfielder Conor Shaughnessy.<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old was recently released by Leeds United<\/a> and has signed an 18-month contract at the Crown Oil Arena.<\/p>\n

Shaughnessy had been at Elland Road since 2016 but has made just 15 appearances. His contract was terminated by mutual consent.<\/p>\n

Shaughnessy Excited to Get Started<\/h3>\n

Following his arrival from Leeds, Shaughnessy told Rochdale’s official websit<\/a>e: \u201cThere were a few clubs interested, but I had a really good conversation with the manager here about the way he plays.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve watched a few games, seen the style of play, and it\u2019s really attractive football to me. It suits me as a player and how I like to play, so it was quite an easy decision.\u00a0I had the meeting with Brian which went really well. I met the staff, had a good chat, and since then it\u2019s been getting things sorted with Leeds.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m so excited to get started now. I can\u2019t wait to get on the pitch, play regular football, meet the lads and get right into it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Conor Shaughnessy: A Background<\/h3>\n

Republic of Ireland youth international Shaughnessy began his career at Reading<\/a> but he failed to make a first-team appearance.<\/p>\n

Following his release in the summer of 2016, the midfielder had a successful trial at Leeds United<\/a>. Following an initial one-year deal, United offered him a four-year contract.<\/p>\n

Fifteen appearances later, Shaughnessy was sent out on loan. Hearts<\/a> secured his services for the remainder of the 2018\/19 season. He would play 11 games in all competitions for the Scottish side.<\/p>\n

The 2019\/20 season brought another two loan deals. The first saw Shaughnessy play 19 games at Mansfield Town<\/a> followed by a further eight at Burton Albion<\/a>. In total the midfielder has played 53 games in all competitions but is still awaiting his first goal.<\/p>\n

The Latest Irish Ace at Rochdale<\/h3>\n

Conor Shaughnessy became Rochdale’s ninth signing of the January transfer window. He also joins the growing list of Irishmen at the club.<\/p>\n

Northern Ireland trio Stephen Dooley, Ryan McLaughlin and Matthew Lund and Republic of Ireland stars Gavin Bazunu, Jimmy Ryan, Paul McShane, Jimmy Keohane and Eoghan O\u2019Connell are already at the Crown Oil Arena.<\/p>\n
