Wales international Jonny Williams<\/a> will undergo a medical at Cardiff City<\/a> ahead of signing for the club, according to Charlton Athletic<\/a> boss Lee Bowyer. Williams’ Charlton contract was due to expire at the end of the current season so a minimal fee will be paid to The Addicks, reported as being \u00a3200,000.<\/a><\/p>\n

Williams’ career to date has been riddled with injury and the attacking midfielder enjoyed something of a revival of his stagnated career at Charlton. His return to form and more consistent playing time, 18 League appearances this season, has seen Williams return to the international fold under Ryan Giggs<\/a>. He was a regular of the Chris Coleman era who performed heroics in getting to the quarter-final of the 2016 European Championships.<\/p>\n

Williams has two goals this season but the main thing for him will be that he has stayed relatively injury-free and a move to Cardiff presents a low-risk option for the Bluebirds with the low fee and experience that the Welshman brings.<\/p>\n

Williams leaves a play-off chasing Charlton side in League One to join a club hoping to turn their fortune and push for a play-off position come the end of the season in the Championship. New Cardiff boss Mick McCarthy<\/a> will be hoping Williams can add some guile to his midfield as well as some depth in the attacking positions.<\/p>\n

Lee Bowyer Sad to See Williams Leave<\/h3>\n

Charlton manager Lee Bowyer cut a frustrated figure when discussing Williams’ imminent transfer to the Welsh capital. He said<\/a>: “He is another one who moves on and has improved as a player under us. The list is bloody endless – of people doing well and moving on.”<\/p>\n

With the Lyle Taylor<\/a> fiasco at the end of the 2019\/20 season, it has been a frustrating few months for Bowyer and Charlton, and to lose another player for next to nothing will leave a bitter taste in Charlton mouths.<\/p>\n

Losing a player capped 25 times by his country would damage any League One club’s aspirations and after overseeing an upturn in form from Williams, who was playing for Crystal Palace<\/a> U23’s before signing, this will be a difficult one for Bowyer to take.<\/p>\n
