Sunderland<\/a> have today completed the signing of left-back Jake Vokins from Southampton,\u00a0who joins on loan until the end of the season.<\/p>\n

Vokins becomes Lee Johnson’s<\/a> second January signing following midfielder Carl Winchester’s<\/a> arrival at the Stadium of Light earlier this transfer window. He will now compete with fellow left-back Callum McFadzean for a first-team place.\u00a0Johnson was keen to add to his options in this area due to the injury to first-choice Denver Hume.<\/p>\n

Can’t Wait to Get Started<\/h3>\n

Following his arrival on Wearside, new loan signing Vokins admitted that he can’t wait to get started.<\/p>\n

The left-back told Sunderland’s official website<\/a>: \u201cI want to come here and play games, and help the team get promoted this season.<\/p>\n

“I feel I can bring my qualities to the team; I\u2019m good on the ball and I can deliver crosses, so hopefully that allows the team to score more goals. It\u2019s a big club and I can\u2019t wait to get started.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lee Johnson Looking Forward to Working With Vokins<\/h3>\n

Following the unveiling of his second signing of the transfer window, Lee Johnson admitted that he is looking forward to working with the 20-year-old. He said: “Jake is a bright young player, who is clearly rated by Southampton. Our full-backs have a similar philosophy to him \u2013 defensively and offensively \u2013 so we think he will fit in nicely and we are looking forward to working with him. We are grateful to Southampton for entrusting us with his development.\u201d<\/p>\n

Who is Jake Vokins?<\/h3>\n

The 20-year-old left-back has spent his entire career at Southampton<\/a>. The highly-regarded youngster has worked his way through the ranks at St Mary’s and has been included in the Saints first-team squad this season. He has been given opportunities in cup competitions and recently played in the FA Cup against Arsenal<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Vokins is a full-back who likes to get forward and get crosses into the box. Southampton boss Ralf Hasenhuttl recently said this<\/a> of his player following him signing a new contract: “He is calm on the ball but also brave, and I like this attribute in my players. He must keep working hard on his game, and we will be sure to do this with him.<\/p>\n

“There are many areas that he can improve in further, so this is a good opportunity for him to make the most of his potential.”<\/p>\n
