Oxford United<\/a> manager Karl Robinson is looking to sign Sunderland<\/a> striker\u00a0Will Grigg<\/a> before the end of the January transfer window.<\/p>\n

Grigg Has Worked With Robinson Before<\/h3>\n

Will Grigg has worked under Karl Robinson before. The 29-year-old netted 22 times from 50 appearances while on loan at MK Dons<\/a>, winning promotion from League One in the process.<\/p>\n

It prompted Wigan Athletic<\/a> to sign the striker from Brentford<\/a>, where he would go on to score 65 goals from 150 appearances.<\/p>\n

Oxford Linked Before<\/h3>\n

Last January<\/a>, the striker looked close to being reunited with Robinson but new Sunderland manager Phil Parkinson blocked a move, something that Grigg later confirmed.<\/a><\/p>\n

But now, despite being heavily linked with a move to Shrewsbury Town,<\/a> Oxford have shown their interest. Speaking to the Oxford Mail<\/a>, Robinson said: “I\u00a0want him to fight with Matty Taylor and Sam Winnall for a place up front.”<\/p>\n

Taylor has hit 11 goals from 23 appearances since joining the club permanently in the summer, while summer signing Sam Winnall has struggled with fitness and injuries, limiting the 30-year-old to just eight appearances.<\/p>\n

However, Grigg has also had his injury concerns. The 29-year-old hasn’t featured for the Black Cats since mid-December having been suffering from a knee problem.<\/p>\n

Out of Favour at Sunderland<\/h3>\n

It clearly hasn’t worked for Will Grigg at Sunderland. Eight goals from 61 appearances isn’t the sort of return that the Black Cats would have expected when they parted with a reported \u00a34 million in January 2019.<\/p>\n

This season, Grigg is yet to score. He has managed just 12 appearances and completed 90 minutes on just two occasions.<\/p>\n

This poor form has prompted a move away with Shrewsbury Town looking likely to secure a deal. However, with a switch to Oxford to contend with, Grigg now has another option.<\/p>\n
