According to reports in the Edinburgh Evening News<\/a> and the Daily Record<\/a>, Hibernian left-back Josh Doig is on Sunderland<\/a> head coach Lee Johnson\u2019s transfer wishlist.<\/p>\n

Johnson is keen to strengthen the left-back position at the club with Denver Hume currently out injured and others filling in during his absence.<\/p>\n

Championship club Stoke City<\/a> are also believed to looking at the 18-year-old.<\/p>\n

Lee Johnson Keen to Sign Left-Back<\/b><\/h3>\n

With regular left-back Denver Hume likely to be out of action until at least March, Lee Johnson<\/a> is keen to add to his options in this area. Callum McFadzean and Dion Sanderson<\/a> have filled in of late but Johnson is interested in signing another who is a natural in the position if at all possible this month.<\/p>\n

Doig appears to be a target for Johnson this month with reports suggesting that he has watched the youngster closely. Hibernian<\/a> are under no pressure to sell the player who still has two years left on his current contract. However, they could find it difficult to hang on to the Scotland youth international as interest begins to grow for a player tipped to have a bright future in the game.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking earlier in the transfer window, Johnson said this<\/a> on signing another left-back: “I think we have to consider it, absolutely.<\/p>\n

\u201dWe have a good left-back [McFadzean] and a couple who can play there but there are so many games, so it has to be a consideration for us. Either that or we have to find one from within our ranks, and I can’t see one there at the moment who is ready to play all the games that we need to at the level that we need to.”<\/p>\n

Who is Josh Doig?<\/b><\/h3>\n

Eighteen-year-old Doig began his career at Hibernian\u2019s Edinburgh rivals Hearts<\/a>. He signed for Hibs in 2019 and soon after was sent out on loan to Scottish League Two club Queen\u2019s Park.<\/p>\n

Last summer, manager Jack Ross added the youngster to his first-team squad, giving him his debut last August. He has gone on to make 16 appearances for the Scottish Premiership high-flyers.<\/p>\n

He made his debut for Scotland U18s in September, featuring in a 2-1 victory.<\/p>\n
