Clubs in League One and League Two are reportedly interested in signing Sunderland<\/a> striker Will Grigg<\/a> this month. The forward has struggled at the Stadium of Light since a big-money move from Wigan Athletic<\/a> two years ago. Now, head coach Lee Johnson is likely to listen to offers for Sunderland<\/a> flop Will Grigg to free up wages on the club\u2019s salary cap.<\/p>\n

Johnson has made little secret of his desire to sign reinforcements this transfer window and the departure of Grigg would help him do that.<\/p>\n

EFL Clubs Interested in Sunderland Flop Will Grigg<\/b><\/h2>\n

According to reports by Richard Mennear of the Sunderland Echo<\/a> and Dylan Childs of Football Insider<\/a>, Salford City<\/a>, Shrewsbury Town<\/a> and MK Dons<\/a> are all interested in taking Sunderland flop Will Grigg away from the Stadium of Light this month. Grigg has suffered from poor form for his entire spell on Wearside and this could be his chance to restart his career.<\/p>\n

Grigg has started 12 games this season but has failed to score and has recently been out of the team through injury. In total, the Northern Ireland international has played 61 games for the Black Cats, scoring just eight goals. Grigg is one of the top earners at the club and without his wages, Lee Johnson could attract the reinforcements he desperately wants.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Johnson Wants New Players And Grigg Leaving Could be Key<\/b><\/h3>\n

Lee Johnson<\/a> has made it no secret that he wishes to strengthen his squad this month. So far only one new signing has arrived in midfielder Carl Winchester<\/a>. However, the Black Cats head coach want more attacking options and possibly a left-back.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Like every other club in Leagues One and Two, Sunderland must work with the salary cap rules. Grigg being a high earner at the club could help Johnson\u2019s attempts in signing new players should he leave either permanently or on loan.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking recently with regards to transfers, Johnson said<\/a>: \u201cWe are obviously having conversations, and what you’re trying to do is get yourself in position so that, it’s almost like a domino effect and when one falls from the big boys, we’re then one of the big boys of League One and we get the first pick of the draft on anyone then available, if you like.<\/p>\n

“Or, we go and sign a permanent, in which case we feel there’s a short and long-term future for them here. I don’t think we’ve got the option to spend an awful lot of money on a particular position, and we’ve just got to accept that.”<\/p>\n
