Bournemouth<\/a> defender Tyler Cordner<\/a> has joined Southend United<\/a> on loan for the remainder of the season.<\/p>\n

Cordner who spent the first half of the season at Southend\u2019s league rivals Scunthorpe United<\/a>, will the rest of the campaign at Roots Hall.<\/p>\n

He is the Shrimpers second January signing as Mark Molesley looks to boost his squad with his team bottom of the Football League.<\/p>\n

Tyler Cordner Joins Southend United on Loan<\/h2>\n

The Defender Made 12 League Appearances While at Scunthorpe United<\/h3>\n

A product of the Bournemouth academy, Cordner signed his first professional deal during the 2016\/17 season. He is currently going through his first full campaign in the EFL.<\/p>\n

Before this season, Cordner has spent time out on loan in non-league with Havant & Waterlooville and Ebbsfleet United. He was a regular in both sides and has shown his qualities.<\/p>\n

Bournemouth then loaned him to Scunthorpe United for the first half of this season. Cordner made 12 appearances in League Two with Neil Cox rotating him in and out the side. In total, he made 17 appearances for the Iron during his time on Humberside.<\/p>\n

The defender will now spend the second half of the season with Southend. He reunites with Mark Molesley, who worked with him in Bournemouth\u2019s academy. Cordner also reunites with fellow Bournemouth academy graduates Shaun Hobson<\/a> and Kyle Taylor<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He joins a Southend United sitting bottom of League Two but have shown real shoots of improvement over the last couple of months. Mark Molesley\u2019s side are just a point off safety and have improved in all areas. However, they still leak goals despite the defensive improvement.<\/p>\n

Cordner is available to make his debut against Bradford City<\/a> on Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n

Cordner Eager to Get More Games Under His Belt<\/h3>\n

Speaking to the Southend website<\/a> about his move, Cordner said: \u201cI\u2019m delighted to sign. I\u2019ve had league experience already at Scunthorpe United and I want to come here and get some more games under my belt<\/p>\n

\u201cIt moved quite quickly. I wasn\u2019t actually planning on coming back from Scunthorpe, I was supposed to be staying there for the season, but Bournemouth recalled me. I\u2019ve been back for three or four days now and I got a call from the loan manager on Sunday saying Southend are interested.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously I know the manager as well, so it was a no brainer for me and I\u2019ve come straight up.<\/p>\n

\u201cSouthend is a massive club and really they shouldn\u2019t be in this league and I think the main thing is we stay up and then hopefully next season they push on to get back to where they should be.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the main thing coming here is to hopefully play games.<\/p>\n

“It helps having those people here to support me but it\u2019s not going to change how I want to play and how I should come in.<\/p>\n

“I didn\u2019t know until last night that I was coming here so I haven\u2019t spoken to any of the lads I know already. I know Kyle really well and have grown up with him through the system [at Bournemouth].<\/p>\n

“Shaun joined a bit later but I\u2019ve played in partnership with him a number of times so we know each other\u2019s [game] in and out.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m going to work hard to get in the team and if I do, I want to take my chance and hopefully we can push the club up the league.\u201d<\/p>\n
