Huddersfield Town<\/a> have re-signed midfielder Duane Holmes<\/a> on a permanent deal from Derby County<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Holmes returns to the John Smith\u2019s Stadium nearly five years after his first spell finished. He is Huddersfield\u2019s third signing in this transfer window.<\/p>\n

Holmes returns for an undisclosed fee and has signed a contract until 2024.<\/p>\n

Holmes Returns Five Years After His First Spell<\/h3>\n

The United States international returns after making 14 appearances for Derby County during the first half of the season. However, due to Derby\u2019s current financial issues, players are available if the price is right.<\/p>\n

Huddersfield have seized the opportunity and brought back a player they know well. His first spell at Huddersfield saw him make 26 appearances for the Terriers. However, he left in 2016 in search of first-team opportunities.<\/p>\n

That took him to Scunthorpe United<\/a> where he impressed in two seasons at Glanford Park. He moved to Derby in 2018 and endured mixed success at Pride Park. His first season saw Derby reach the play-off final which they lost to Aston Villa<\/a>. He played a lot under Philipp Cocu, but since Wayne Rooney took over the first team, Holmes has struggled to break into the first team.<\/p>\n

He returns to Huddersfield a wiser, better player. At 26, his best years to come and he brings plenty of experience to a young Huddersfield side. He brings extra creativity to a team which struggles to create consistent opportunities to score.<\/p>\n

Holmes can also play in a variety of positions. He can play out wide or in the number ten role. A huge plus for manager Carlos Corberan<\/a> as he continues to stamp his authority on the team.<\/p>\n

Holmes could make his second Huddersfield Town debut on Tuesday night when the Terriers take on Bristol City<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the Huddersfield website<\/a> about his new signing, Corberan said: \u201cDuane\u2019s versatility is very important for us; he can play as a midfield eight, a 10 or on either wing.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has enough quality and understanding of football to have an immediate impact in Championship games, plus his knowledge of this club and experience of the division will help his adaptation.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe aim to receive the best from him in his second period at Huddersfield Town, and seeing his Terrier Spirit on the pitch.\u201d<\/p>\n
