Chelsea<\/a> are keeping their options open regarding a short-term loan deal for teenage sensation Billy Gilmour<\/a>, reports Football.London<\/a>. The central midfielder put in a scintillating performance<\/a> against Championship outfit Luton Town<\/a> in the FA Cup fourth round, proving to be ready for Premier League football once more.<\/p>\n

The highly-rated young midfielder has spent a lot of time in the injury room following a serious knee injury<\/a> suffered after lockdown, but Gilmour once again showed his competence amongst a group of world-class players. His ability to keep possession in high-pressure scenarios coupled with his fantastic range of passing helped the 19-year-old shine in Chelsea’s<\/a> 3-1 win over Luton Town.<\/a><\/p>\n

The teenager’s performance particularly caught the eye of Chelsea<\/a> boss Frank Lampard, who will now have the difficult decision as to whether a short-term loan deal would aid the development of the young Scottish international. When asked about Gilmour’s performance, Lampard said<\/a>: “Playing like he did today is making it very difficult (not to give him more minutes) because I thought he was outstanding.<\/p>\n

“His comfort on the ball, the way he moved it, his discipline, his personality was great. If he plays like he does today, it makes it very difficult for me not to give him a run.”<\/p>\n

However, reports are now suggesting that the Blues boss could be set for the sack.<\/a> This could change the future of the Scottish midfielder.<\/p>\n

A Plethora of Central Midfield Options Already<\/h3>\n

The difficulty that Gilmour will find if he does remain at Chelsea during this window, is that the club have invested millions of pounds in exciting midfield talent, meaning that the opportunities to play may be rather limited.<\/p>\n

A Premier League move would certainly help develop the young midfielder, but for Chelsea, it is ultimately finding the rights suitors who will give Gilmour the minutes he needs.<\/p>\n
