Swansea City<\/a> have acquired American forward Jordan Morris<\/a> on loan<\/a> from Major League Soccer club Seattle Sounders. The loan deal will see Morris remain with the Swans through the remainder of the 2020\/21 campaign with an option to buy when the loan comes to an end.<\/p>\n

A Promising Signing<\/h3>\n

Morris<\/a> was one of the top attacking players in MLS during the 2020 season. The 26-year-old United States Men’s National Team player registered ten goals and eight assists in 22 appearances<\/a>. He played a key role in helping the Sounders reach the MLS Cup final as he recorded one goal and one assist<\/a> during the playoffs. The Sounders would fall to the Columbus Crew in the final which denied Morris a third MLS Cup title with the Sounders.<\/p>\n

It’s been a fairly consistent career for Morris<\/a> in terms of goal production. In three of his five seasons in MLS, Morris has scored ten goals or more. His best season in terms of goal scoring was the 2016 season when he scored 12 goals in 34 appearances<\/a>. The only seasons where he failed to record ten goals or more was in the 2017 campaign when Morris registered three goals in 23 appearances<\/a> and the 2018 season when he suffered an ACL injury<\/a> that caused him to miss the entire season.<\/p>\n

At international level, Morris has made 39 appearances<\/a> for the USMNT and has scored ten goals<\/a>. His most recent appearances were made in the CONCACAF Nations League in 2019 when he scored four goals and registered four assists<\/a> to help the USA advance to the semifinals of the regional competition.<\/p>\n

Reinforcements for Swansea<\/h3>\n

With Swansea City<\/a> pushing for promotion, bringing in Morris will offer another attacking option for manager Steve Cooper to utilise during the second half of the\u00a0Championship<\/a> season. Jamal Lowe<\/a> and Andre Ayew<\/a> have been leading the way in goal scoring with the duo combining for 17<\/a> of Swansea City’s 28 goals<\/a> in the Championship this season. However, after these two players, the Swan’s third-leading scorer is centre back Benjamin Cabango<\/a> with three goals<\/a>. Bringing in Morris could offer a third source of consistent goals that can further improve the attack.<\/p>\n

Morris is a great player to have either in the starting 11 or as a second-half substitute. His quick pace can devastate opposing back-lines and cause headaches late in matches. He has what it takes to be an effective attacking player in the Championship. This loan should turn out to be a great acquisition for Swansea as they continue in the battle for promotion to the English top flight.<\/p>\n
