Ipswich Town have made their first signing of the January transfer window after snapping up Barnsley midfielder Luke Thomas<\/a> on loan.<\/p>\n

Luke Thomas Joins Ipswich Town on Loan<\/h2>\n

First January Signing for Ipswich<\/h3>\n

Twenty-one-year-old wide midfielder Luke Thomas has become Paul Lambert’s first signing of the window<\/a>. The former England U20 joins on loan from Championship club Barnsley until the end of the season.<\/p>\n

Thomas has made 22 appearances for the Tykes this season while turning out on 42 occasions last campaign as they avoided the drop.<\/p>\n

Thomas was In-Demand<\/h3>\n

Thomas had also been attracting plenty of interest during the window. League One rivals Sunderland and Oxford United<\/a> were said to be keen on the 21-year-old.<\/p>\n

However, the winger has opted for a move to Portman Road instead. Ipswich are seventh in League One, one place above the Black Cats.<\/p>\n

What Was Said<\/h3>\n

In his first interview with the club, Thomas said:<\/a> “I’m over the moon to have sorted a deal, it’s been going on for a couple of weeks but it’s sorted now.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“I can’t wait for Saturday and hopefully at some point, I’ll be able to play in front of the fans.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“The ultimate goal is to achieve promotion. This is a fantastic stadium and I’d love to help the club get promoted.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“It’s good to be part of a challenge. I will relish it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“I trained for the first time this morning and it went really well. It was nice to meet the lads and I’m looking forward to my first matchday.”<\/p>\n

Career So Far<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

Having started off with the West Bromwich Albion<\/a> Academy, Thomas joined Cheltenham Town and made his professional debut.<\/p>\n

In 2016, the winger left Gloucestershire and moved to Derby County. However, with loan spells at Gloucester City and Coventry City, Thomas only made two Rams appearances before his move to Barnsley in 2019.<\/p>\n
