Bristol City<\/a> women’s side have made it through to the semi-finals of the FA Women’s League Cup after a 2-1 win over Aston Villa, thanks to a second half brace from Ebony Salmon.<\/p>\n

The Robins’ cup run is a welcome distraction from their woeful league form, where Tanya Oxtoby’s<\/a> side sit bottom of the WSL without a win in ten games.<\/p>\n

Bristol City Women’s Team Through to FA Women’s League Cup Semi-Final<\/h2>\n

Bristol City Impressive in the Cup<\/h3>\n

Tanya Oxtoby’s side have excelled in the cup this season. Having topped their group with three wins from three, the Robins met Aston Villa<\/a> in the quarter-finals.<\/p>\n

Villa, who also won their group with three victories, are also struggling in the WSL and sit just one place and four points above Bristol City.<\/p>\n

And the hosts were dealt a blow before kick off after Carla Humphrey and Sophie Baggaley returned positive a COVID-19 test.<\/p>\n

Despite that, it was all square at the break at Twerton Park, but a second-half brace from Ebony Salmon<\/a> put the hosts in control. Although substitute Stine Larsen reduced the deficit, the Robins held on to progress to the semi-finals for the first time in the clubs’ history.<\/p>\n

In-Form Salmon<\/h3>\n

Although the Robins have struggled in the league this season, Ebony Salmon has been a bright spark in what has been a disappointing campaign.<\/p>\n

Having penned a contract extension in June, the 19-year-old has scored four from four in the cup, while adding three from ten in the league.<\/p>\n

The England U19 international will be key as the Robins look to move themselves off the foot of the table.<\/p>\n

Salmon Unable to Help Bristol City Women’s League Woes<\/h3>\n

They may be into the last four of the cup for the first time in the history, but Bristol City women’s side are struggling in the league. Ten games in, the Robins are yet to record a win.<\/p>\n

Two draws against Reading and Tottenham<\/a> respectively see Oxtoby’s side rock bottom and four points behind Villa, who have played two games less.<\/p>\n
