Serie A<\/a> side Genoa<\/a> are pushing to sign Arsenal<\/a> defender Sokratis<\/a>. The Italian club’s CEO told Sky Sports<\/a>: “Sokratis is an option, really good player- we still don’t know if he could arrive in the next few days.”<\/span><\/p>\n

The Arsenal defender has been out-of-favour under Mikel Arteta<\/a> for a while now and looks likely to be the first of many departures at the club as they look to rebuild.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sokratis, himself, could do with the move away, and a place in the Serie A will certainly sound tempting for the Greek defender.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Currently one place above the dropzone, Genoa could do with an experienced leader within the backline. And that leader could be Sokratis. The 32-year-old has played in both the Premier League<\/a> with Arsenal and Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund<\/a>– where he showed his best form.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

His experience. should Genoa complete a move, could prove to be the difference between survival and relegation to the Serie B. Sokratis has played at the top of European football for several years, and is still perfectly capable of channelling his experience towards helping the Italian outfit.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As Arsenal look to begin what could be a lengthy clearout, too, Sokratis’ exit could be imminent.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sokratis No Longer Needed at Arsenal\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Signing for \u00a317.6 million in 2018, many believed that Sokratis would be the solution to Arsenal’s defensive dilemma. Three years later and a couple of disappointing seasons later, however, and the Greek centre-back is heading for the exit door with his services surplus to requirements.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Many more could follow in the defender’s footsteps, as well, as Mikel Arteta looks to clear out the deadwood preventing his Arsenal side from reaching their full potential.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sokratis’ reported forthcoming exit should free up fees for the Gunners to secure some much-needed reinforcements this month.<\/span><\/p>\n
