Scottish Premiership side Hibernian have completed the signing of goalkeeper Matt Macey<\/a> from Arsenal<\/a>. The signing of the 6’7″ shot-stopper was confirmed the club’s official website<\/a> on Friday.<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old had been with the Gunners since 2013 but made just two appearances. Macey has signed a contract until the end of the season and will now challenge for the number one spot at Easter Road.<\/p>\n

Manager Jack Ross Delighted to Have Signed Macey<\/h3>\n

Following a goalkeeper shortage at Hibs, Jack Ross<\/a> was delighted to be able to sign Macey from Premier League giants Arsenal. Ross had recently lost two goalkeepers, one through injury and one recalled by their parent club. The Hibs boss<\/p>\n

told the Hibernian website<\/a>:\u00a0\u201cWe are delighted to be able to bring a goalkeeper of Matt\u2019s calibre to the club and I\u2019m looking forward to seeing him challenge Ofir and Kevin for a place in the team.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt provides us with real strength in depth in the goalkeeping department as we build towards the second half of the season.\u201d<\/p>\n

Matt Macey was equally as delighted as his new manager and is eager for first-team football. He added:\u00a0\u201cI\u2019m really excited to get going. I spoke to the gaffer and Craig Samson but, to be honest, my mind was already made up to come.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m grateful for every experience I had at Arsenal but I\u2019m hungry to play first-team football. I know that won\u2019t be handed to me here, so it\u2019s up to me to show what I can do in training and take it from there.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo-one has to tell me what a big club Hibernian is, in a competitive league. I\u2019m looking forward to getting started.\u201d<\/p>\n

Matt Macey History<\/h3>\n

Macey began his career at Bristol Rovers but failed to break into their first-team. Following a successful trial, Macey jumped to the Premier League with Arsenal in 2013, with the Gunners paying Rovers around \u00a3100,000 in compensation. Three loans spells allowed the keeper to gain valuable first-team experience. Macey spent time at Accrington Stanley, Luton Town and Plymouth Argyle amassing 55 games.<\/p>\n

Macey would make just two appearances for the Gunners in his seven-and-a-half years at the Emirates. However, he did win an FA Cup<\/a> winners medal for being a member of the Arsenal squad which won the cup last season. A new chapter is about to begin for the big shot-stopper, and he will be hoping to make the number one position place his own.<\/p>\n
