Burton Albion winger Owen Gallacher<\/a> has extended his stay with the League One strugglers after agreeing on a new deal.<\/p>\n

Contract Talks With Burton Boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink Helped Gallacher<\/h3>\n

Following the return of Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink<\/a>, Gallacher has agreed an extension with the club. The 21-year-old has turned out seven times for the Brewers this season but has made just four league appearances.<\/p>\n

He joined the League One strugglers in the summer following his release from Nottingham Forest, where he came through the youth setup after starting off at Newcastle United<\/a>.<\/p>\n

What Was Said<\/h3>\n

Speaking to the clubs’ official website<\/a>, manager Hasselbaink said: \u201cI\u2019m happy that Owen has extended his deal with the club.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope that he takes the opportunity given to him and does everything he can to tie down a regular playing position.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gallacher added: \u201cI\u2019m delighted to be staying as that\u2019s always what I\u2019ve wanted.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince I walked into the club I\u2019ve loved every minute. I haven\u2019t played as many games as I\u2019ve wanted to, but I think that when I have played I\u2019ve showed what I can do.<\/p>\n

\u201cHopefully I can play some more games and can help us to get out of the relegation zone in order to stay up.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to kick on and show the new gaffer and the fans what I can do.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe gaffer has told us that he believes in us and I want to repay the faith that he\u2019s shown in me to keep me at the club.\u201d<\/p>\n

Burton Struggles This Season<\/h3>\n

After ending last season in 12th, the Brewers would have hoped to have kicked on this season. But as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, Burton have been hit hard than many clubs.<\/p>\n

It caused manager Nigel Clough to step down<\/a>\u00a0to free up funds for staff and players.<\/p>\n

This season, the Brewers have struggled on the pitch and find themselves bottom of League One after 22 games. Burton have just two wins in the league and have lost 13 times, with their most recent result a 5-1 defeat at home to Oxford United.<\/a><\/p>\n

Hasselbaink’s first game since returning as manager will be a trip to Gillingham on Saturday afternoon. The Dutchman managed the Brewers previously and led them to the League Two title in 2014\/15. He left the following season to join Queens Park Rangers.<\/p>\n
