West Bromwich Albion<\/a> have signed former Liverpool<\/a> goalkeeper Andy Lonergan<\/a>, according to Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The goalkeeper will join the club as back-up for Sam Johnstone<\/a> and David Button<\/a>.<\/p>\n

West Bromwich Albion to Sign Andy Lonergan<\/h2>\n

Wealth of Experience<\/h3>\n

Andy Lonergan will arrive at the Hawthorns with a wealth of experience. The goalkeeper has been on the books professionally at 14 different clubs across the English football pyramid. He featured most of all for Preston North End<\/a>, where he started his career in 2000.<\/p>\n

More recently, Lonergan joined Stoke City<\/a> in a short-term deal, where he would provide cover for young goalkeeper Josef Bursik<\/a>, who had been recalled from his loan spell at Doncaster Rovers<\/a>, due to a goalkeeper shortage. Lonergan made just the one appearance for Stoke, conceding three goals in their 3-1 Carabao Cup<\/a> loss to Tottenham Hotspur<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 37-year-old was entrusted by Jurgen Klopp<\/a> at Premier League<\/a> champions Liverpool last season. With major clubs insisting on having three goalkeepers available to them, in case the worst happens in that position.<\/p>\n

At the best of times, Lonergan played 229 times for Preston North End in his 11-year stay at the club.\u00a0 At this stage in his career, he does not expect to be the first choice, especially for a Premier League club, but will provide a reliable option should he be required.<\/p>\n

Current Setup<\/h3>\n

Sam Johnstone has a stronghold on the number one shirt at West Brom right now. The former Manchester United<\/a> goalkeeper has started all 17 of Albion’s Premier League games this season and that doesn’t look about to change. Johnstone has been particularly impressive and may attract the interest of other top-flight clubs when the time comes, but for now, he remains Sam Allardyce’s number one.<\/p>\n

David Button is the second choice at the club and looks set to keep that position. He has been trusted for both of West Brom’s cup games this season so far.<\/p>\n
