{"id":577840,"date":"2021-01-07T12:58:20","date_gmt":"2021-01-07T17:58:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/?p=577840"},"modified":"2026-03-15T13:51:16","modified_gmt":"2026-03-15T17:51:16","slug":"two-womens-super-league-games-suspended-due-to-covid-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2021\/01\/07\/two-womens-super-league-games-suspended-due-to-covid-19\/","title":{"rendered":"Two Women&#8217;s Super League Games Suspended Due to COVID-19"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">After games in the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/?s=premier+league\" target=\"_self\">Premier League<\/a> and <a href=\"\/football\/tag\/EFL\" target=\"_self\">EFL<\/a> faced suspension due to positive COVID-19 tests, the Women&#8217;s Super League has been hit with a similar fate.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Positive cases of the virus within the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/category\/premier-league\/manchester-city\/\" target=\"_self\">Manchester City<\/a> squad has forced the cancellation of their game against <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/category\/premier-league\/west-ham\/\" target=\"_self\">West Ham United.<\/a> Similarly, a positive case within the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/category\/premier-league\/arsenal\/arsenalhistory\/\" target=\"_self\">Arsenal<\/a> squad has forced the postponement of the game between themselves and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/category\/premier-league\/aston-villa\/\" target=\"_self\">Aston Villa<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">COVID-19 Cases Forces Postponement of WSL Games<\/span><\/h2>\n<h2><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Statement From Women&#8217;s Super League<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The Women&#8217;s Super League has since released a statement which <a href=\"https:\/\/womenscompetitions.thefa.com\/en\/article\/wsl-matches-postponed-20210701\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said the following<\/a>: &#8220;We can confirm that the Barclays FA Women\u2019s Super League matches between Aston Villa and Arsenal and Manchester City v West Ham United, both due to be played on Saturday 9 January, have now been postponed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;Manchester City provided evidence that outlined they would not be able to meet the minimum squad quota of 14 for their match due to positive COVID-19 tests and other mitigating circumstances.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;The players affected are now in self-isolation and we will look to reschedule their fixture with West Ham.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;Arsenal also demonstrated that they would not be able to meet the minimum number of 14 players for their match with Aston Villa after the club was affected by COVID-19.
