Middlesbrough have confirmed that Duncan Watmore has signed a new two-and-a-half-year deal at the Riverside Stadium.<\/p>\n
The forward had been catching the eye of several other clubs, including Stoke City<\/a>, according to Stoke Live<\/a>, but he will now remain with Middlesbrough until 2023.<\/p>\n Watmore made the move to the Riverside Stadium in November after leaving former club Sunderland<\/a> in June.<\/p>\n The 26-year-old’s spell with the Black Cats was largely marred by a string of injuries, as well as the club’s fall to League One. He suffered a cruciate ligament injury in the 2016\/17 season, which eventually hampered the following two years of his career.<\/p>\n Watmore returned to full action when Sunderland were plying their trade in League One, and many believed that he should be playing higher.<\/p>\n Eventually, the forward was released in June 2020, but it wasn’t until November that he secured a move back to the Championship.<\/p>\n However, it has been a hugely successful spell for Watmore and Middlesbrough. He has scored five goals in eight games, including braces against Swansea City<\/a> and Millwall.<\/p>\n Speaking to the Middlesbrough club website<\/a>, manager Neil Warnock said: “We\u2019re delighted to get him on board.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t think it was ever in doubt that he would sign with us because he has loved every minute of it here so far.<\/p>\n \u201cHe gets on with the players and the staff, and he is really enjoying himself.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s a real good lad. We\u2019re looking forward to having him here on a longer-term basis now and hopefully seeing him score plenty more goals for the club.\u201d<\/p>\n Middlesbrough fans may have to wait for Watmore’s next appearance.
