Hibernian hitman Kevin Nisbet is reportedly on Sunderland’s transfer wishlist. Alan Potts of the Scottish Sun<\/a> and Mark Donnelly of the Sunderland Echo<\/a> report that the Black Cats have enquired about the striker’s availability. Sunderland<\/a> head coach Lee Johnson<\/a> is in the market for extra firepower as he attempts to guide his side to the Championship. With Will Grigg out injured, the search has intensified and Nisbet could fit the bill.<\/p>\n

Sunderland Front-Runners for 12-goal Striker<\/h3>\n

According to reports, Kevin Nisbet has been attracting interest from several clubs over a potential January move. However, it appears that Sunderland<\/a> have jumped to the front of the queue for the in-form forward.<\/p>\n

Hibs signed Nisbet only last summer for \u00a3250,000 following a 23-goal season at Dunfermline. Manager Jack Ross<\/a>, who was sacked by Sunderland last season, is understandably keen to keep his star striker. However, a bid in excess of what they paid could tempt the Hibs board.<\/p>\n

Who is Kevin Nisbet?<\/h3>\n

Fans south of the border may not know too much about Nisbet. The 23-year-old began his career as a youngster at Hibernian before joining Partick Thistle as an apprentice. Nisbet quickly rose through Thistle’s academy and had several loans to aid his development.<\/p>\n

A permanent move to Raith Rovers proved highly successful. Thirty-four goals followed in 46 games, which alerted Dunfermline who signed him in 2019.<\/p>\n

The young striker continued his excellent form, scoring 23 times in 32 appearances. Once again, after just one season, he made another move and another step up in division when signing for Scottish Premiership side Hibernian.<\/p>\n

Nisbet has taken the step up in his stride and in turn, it has caused other clubs to take a closer look.<\/p>\n

Sunderland’s Transfer Wishlist: Lee Johnson Wants the Right Players<\/h3>\n

Speaking prior to the transfer window opening, Sunderland head coach Lee Johnson spoke<\/a> about his aims for the month and his eagerness to bring in the right players to fit in with his current squad, saying: “We want to try and get better, that\u2019s something we\u2019re trying to do.<\/p>\n

“Obviously we\u2019re in a position with the ownership, as you will have seen in public, at the moment where it\u2019s not total clarity what we can and can\u2019t do. I think it\u2019s about presenting the right option and we\u2019re on it, I can assure everybody of that.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“We\u2019ve got very healthy lists and information to go with those lists, and I\u2019m very conscious when bringing any player in that the group sits well with it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“Sometimes it\u2019ll be an unfashionable signing, sometimes it\u2019ll be a fashionable signing \u2013 and I guess people just have to trust over a period of time that we make the right decision for the long-term future of the club in terms of getting better instantly and over a period of time.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
