A 2-0 win saw Tottenham Hotspur<\/a> break Brentford hearts to reach the final of the Carabao Cup.<\/a> Both teams had gone into the game looking to return to Wembley once more. Brentford<\/a> lost at Wembley in last season’s Championship<\/a> playoff final to Aston Villa<\/a> whilst Tottenham were looking to return to their former temporary home and a ground where their last silverware came 13 years ago in 2008 when they beat Chelsea<\/a> in the same competition.<\/p>\n

2-0 Win Sees Tottenham Hotspur Break Brentford Hearts<\/h2>\n

Tottenham Control First 45 Minutes<\/h3>\n

Brentford came into their first-ever League Cup semi-final tie on a run of 16 games unbeaten and in buoyant mood. In the quarter-final win over Newcastle United<\/a>, Thomas Frank<\/a> rang the changes, resting several first-team regulars, but he made no such concessions for the trip to North London.<\/p>\n

Brentford started the game at a lively pace but Jose Mourinho<\/a> had his Spurs team well drilled to attack and defend as one entire unit, something they had not done during a disappointing run of results that finally ended last time out with a 3-0 victory over Leeds United<\/a> in the Premier League<\/a>. When Spurs attacked, there was no shortage of players wanting to get into the box and it was just that that saw the hosts take the lead on 12 minutes.<\/p>\n

Sergio Reguilon<\/a> delivered a pinpoint cross from the left-hand side and Moussa Sissoko<\/a> made a run into the box to glance a header into the top corner. Frank will not have been happy with the defending, but Spurs just about deserved the lead.<\/p>\n

Brentford Denied by Superb Serge Aurier and VAR<\/h3>\n

Brentford started the second half showing exactly why they are on that unbeaten run of 16 games. Ivan Toney<\/a> thought he had pulled Brentford level only for Serge Aurier<\/a> to cover round the back and make a superb challenge to block the shot and keep Spurs ahead. It was then heartbreak for Toney and Brentford when he headed home but VAR intervened and ruled that his knee was just offside. The warning signs for Tottenham were very much there as Brentford kept pressing forward to look to get themselves back in the tie.<\/p>\n

Son Heung-min Scores Once More<\/h3>\n

For all of Brentford\u2019s pressing, it was Spurs and Son Heung-min<\/a> once again who made it 2-0. After scoring his 100th for Spurs against Leeds, he added to his tally after a fine move involving Harry Kane<\/a>\u00a0and Tanguy Ndombele<\/a> to set Son free, and he smashed the ball home.<\/p>\n

Brentford\u2019s evening was soured when Joshua Dasilva<\/a> saw red for a dreadful challenge of Pierre Emile-Hojberg<\/a> which left the Dane with cuts down his shin.<\/p>\n

Tottenham Edge One Step Closer to First Silverware in 13 Years<\/h3>\n

Brentford and Thomas Frank will move on from this match and look to win promotion to the Premier League. For Tottenham Hotspur, they are now one win away from ending 13 years with plenty of progress but no silverware to show for that progress and Jose Mourinho will make sure his team are ready to go from nearly men to winners.<\/p>\n
