Newcastle United<\/a> winger Rolando Aarons is set to join<\/a> Championship side Huddersfield Town<\/a>, according to Mark Douglas of Chronicle Live<\/a>. Steve Bruce wants to make space in his Magpies squad and Aarons, who has not played for Newcastle since the 2017\/18 season, is deemed surplus to requirements.<\/p>\n

It’s reported that Aarons was close to joining the Terriers back in the summer, and after that deal stalled, it has been revived this window.<\/p>\n

Talks between the two parties are at an advanced stage and it now seems like a matter of time before Huddersfield land what was their “top target” back in the last window.<\/p>\n

Terriers chairman Phil Hodgkinson said: “Unfortunately we couldn\u2019t get it done (in September) and that\u2019s life and it happens, but we still are confident that he\u2019s the right player, so rather than bringing someone in at the last minute or bringing in someone else\u2026he\u2019s our top target, he remains so, and what we\u2019d rather do is get through the next 10 weeks to January and get it done then rather than bring in somebody that maybe doesn\u2019t tick all the boxes Rolando did.”<\/p>\n

Newcastle Not Worked Out for Aarons<\/h3>\n

Since moving from the Bristol City youth set-up and breaking through at Newcastle, Aarons has failed to really nail down a place.<\/p>\n

At the start of his career he was a highly-rated prospect but his maximum number of appearances in a single season for Newcastle stands at just 11 – and only 13 for any other club.<\/p>\n

His last appearance for the Magpies was in 2017 and since then he has been on five separate loan spells in four different countries.<\/p>\n

First, he made 11 appearances for Serie A side Hellas Verona and then played 13 times for Czech side Slovan Liberec the season after.<\/p>\n

In England, Aarons has featured for Sheffield Wednesday and Wycombe Wanderers and he then spent the second half of last season on loan at Scottish side Motherwell.<\/p>\n
