Swansea City<\/a> transfer target Michael Obafemi<\/a> has suffered a serious muscle injury according to a report by The Athletic<\/a>, meaning that any proposed move<\/a> is not going to take place during the January transfer window.<\/p>\n

Michael Obafemi Injury Ends Loan Deal Hopes<\/h3>\n

Dan Sheldon from The Athletic tweeted<\/a> that the striker\u2019s proposed move to the Championship is now off as the player suffered a “significant muscle injury” whilst taking part in training with Southampton<\/a> on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Stoke City<\/a> had also shown interest in the striker but it was Swansea who were ready to finalise a loan deal in the coming days and the news of the injury will be a bitter pill to swallow for the player, but also for Swansea manager Steve Cooper who in the last 48 hours had felt a deal was all but ready to be signed. The deal was seen as being a good move for club and player as he has been limited in terms of game time at St Mary\u2019s under Ralph Hassenhutl.<\/a><\/p>\n

The loan deal was thought to be for six months for the 20-year-old, who has represented the Republic of Ireland, but Cooper will now need to look at other options.<\/p>\n

Swansea\u2019s Alternatives<\/h3>\n

The Athletic went on to mention that even if the move for Obafemi had been successful, the club were also looking at Max Watters of Crawley Town<\/a> although that avenue seems to have been cut off due to Crawley\u2019s financial demands for their player.<\/p>\n

Although Swansea are going well in the Championship (they currently sit second in the table), Cooper is keen to add more attacking firepower to his squad as he looks to get the club back into the Premier League via an automatic promotion spot this season.<\/p>\n
