Bristol Rovers have made Cardiff City<\/a> goalkeeper Joe Day their first January signing<\/a> on a deal until the end of the season.<\/p>\n

Day is Paul Tisdale\u2019s first signing as Bristol Rovers manager. The vastly experienced goalkeeper will compete for the number one spot.<\/p>\n

Day arrives after making just two appearances for Cardiff since signing for the Bluebirds in 2019.<\/p>\n

Bristol Rovers Sign Goalkeeper Joe Day on Loan From Cardiff City<\/h2>\n

Day’s Career<\/h3>\n

Goalkeeper Day began his career at Crystal Palace<\/a> and, while he didn\u2019t make a senior appearance for the Eagles, he has since gone on to make over 200 appearances for several clubs.<\/p>\n

He made his name at Newport Count<\/a>y, establishing himself as one of League Two\u2019s<\/a> top goalkeepers. Day enjoyed four-and-a-half successful years at Rodney Parade, joining as the Exiles\u2019 record signing. The goalkeeper made the League Two PFA Team of the Season in 2018\/19. He also helped Newport reach the play-off final before departing for Cardiff.<\/p>\n

His move across Wales hasn\u2019t worked out with Day struggling to impress Neil Warnock and current manager Neil Harris. Day was then loaned out to AFC Wimbledon<\/a>, making nine appearances before the curtailment of the previous season.<\/p>\n

A move to Bristol Rovers offers a fresh start. Tisdale has targeted the goalkeeper position with current keepers Anssi Jaakkola<\/a> and Jordi van Stappershoef<\/a> struggling with injuries and form.<\/p>\n

Tisdale Delighted With New Signing<\/h3>\n

Speaking to the Bristol Rovers website<\/a> about his new signing, Tisdale said: \u201cWe are delighted to bring Joe to the football club.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe nature of Anssi\u2019s injury makes it difficult to determine a timeframe for his return, so the addition of Joe will give us great competition in the goalkeeping department, with a high volume of games to come over the next few months.<\/p>\n

\u201cJoe has an abundance of EFL experience and has shown his credentials as a highly-rated goalkeeper over many years.”<\/p>\n

Day could make his debut in Rovers’ next game which is in the FA Cup against Sheffield United<\/a>.<\/p>\n
