Swindon Town have made their first January signing<\/a> by bringing in Brentford left-back Dominic Thompson on loan for the rest of the season. The deal is subject to EFL and FA approval.<\/p>\n

Thompson is the first arrival for John Sheridan since he took over as Swindon manager. The left-back will be tasked with helping Swindon avoid an instant return to League Two.<\/p>\n

The Robins currently sit 23rd<\/sup> in the League One table, four points adrift of safety.<\/p>\n

Dominic Thompson Joins Swindon Town<\/h2>\n

In Need of Game Time<\/h3>\n

Thompson is a talented young full-back ready to gain some vital experience in the EFL. He has made a handful of appearances for the Brentford since joining from Arsenal<\/a> in 2019.<\/p>\n

Thompson will eventually compete for the left-back berth in the Swindon side. However, he is likely to slot in from the start following a string of defensive injuries for the Robins. Ellis Iandolo<\/a> is injured and Rob Hunt<\/a> is about to start a three-match ban.<\/p>\n

The talented full-back with link up with familiar face Matt Smith<\/a>. Smith is an Arsenal loanee and two featured together for Arsenal\u2019s youth sides.<\/p>\n

Thompson Ready for Swindon Challenge<\/h3>\n

Speaking to the Swindon website<\/a> about his move, Thompson said: \u201cThey\u2019re a good group of boys and all really friendly. There\u2019s a lot of talent in this team.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe gaffer has got in contact with Brentford and this is an opportunity for me to play football and gain valuable experience and I want to help the club in the situation we are in at the moment.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a good challenge for me, stepping out to gain experience. It\u2019s not like the start of the season, I\u2019m ready and if I\u2019m needed I\u2019m happy to step in.\u201d<\/p>\n

Should the approval be received in time, Thompson could make his Swindon Town debut against Ipswich Town<\/a> on Saturday.<\/p>\n
