Port Vale<\/a> have sacked manager John Askey after a poor run of results and form. Askey departs after just under two years in charge in which he stabilised the club.<\/p>\n

The 56-year-old leaves Vale 17th<\/sup> in the League Two<\/a> table, just five points clear of the relegation zone.<\/p>\n

A club statement read<\/a>: \u201cPort Vale have today parted company with Manager John Askey and Assistant Manager Dave Kevan.<\/p>\n

\u201cFirst Team Coach Danny Pugh takes charge of the First Team until further notice.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Port Vale Board of Directors would like to thank John and Dave for their service to the club and wish them all the best for the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

A Poor Run of Results Sees Askey Pay the Price<\/h3>\n

Askey leaves Port Vale 17th<\/sup> in the table after a run of one win in their last 11 league games. In that time, the Valiants managed just six points, which has seen their promotion bid take a major hit.<\/p>\n

The sole highlight of that rotten run was a thumping win at Bolton Wanderers<\/a>. Indifferent results and performances have concerned the fans and the Port Vale hierarchy. Askey departs with Vale winless in their last six matches.<\/p>\n

Askey was heavily backed in the summer with a big turnover of players, and he built an excellent squad ready to compete for promotion. They started the season well, wining six of their opening ten league games.<\/p>\n

But since the start of November, Vale have sunk down the League Two table winning just one league game. They are leaking goals and Saturday\u2019s 4-0 loss to Mansfield Town<\/a> proved the final nail in the coffin for John Askey.<\/p>\n

Danny Pugh Confirmed as Interim Manager<\/h3>\n

First-team coach Danny Pugh will replace Askey until a permanent appointment is announced. Pugh is tasked with turning Vale\u2019s fortunes around and getting them back into play-off contention.<\/p>\n

Pugh\u2019s first game in charge is at home to struggling Grimsby Town<\/a> – a crucial game for both sides as they look to end their rotten run of form.<\/p>\n
