Southampton<\/a> are set to be without <\/span>goalkeeper<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Alex McCarthy<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>who tested positive for coronavirus in the latest round of testing in the Premier League<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Saints’ number one is set to miss Monday\u2019s crunch clash against league leaders Liverpool<\/a> and could also miss the FA Cup<\/a> tie against Shrewsbury Town<\/a>.<\/p>\n

During his time at Southampton, McCarthy has been among those revolutionised under Ralph Hasenhuttl<\/a> and his impressive form has led to seven clean sheets this season. That is only bettered by Aston Villa<\/a> goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez<\/a>.<\/p>\n

During the routine testing done on Wednesday before the game against the defending champions, the England international was the only one to come back with a positive result.<\/p>\n

Ahead of the game against Liverpool, Ralph Hasenhuttl confirmed<\/a> the news saying: \u201cafter the last round of tests, we have one positive case with Alex.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, he\u2019s out for the game because he has to self-isolate for a period.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think Fraser is a very good alternative.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe really wants to play now, was waiting for his chance and has made a really good development.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd, against a strong opponent, to make your debut for the season is not the worst for a keeper.<\/p>\n

Fraser Forster To Deputise in McCarthy Absence<\/h3>\n

Former Celtic<\/a> shot-stopper Fraser Forster<\/a> is in contention to return to the Southampton line-up for the first time since May 2019.<\/p>\n

Southampton boss Hasenhuttl missed his team’s latest match, a\u00a00-0<\/a> draw against the Hammers, after having to self-isolate. The Austrian manager spent time away from the dugout after a member of his household tested positive.<\/p>\n

This also comes after four Premier League<\/a> games were called off because of coronavirus this week.<\/p>\n
