Atletico Madrid<\/a> are reportedly looking to gain the signature of Chelsea<\/a> left-back Marcos Alonso<\/a>. The Spaniard is unhappy with his lack of playing time under boss Frank Lampard. The 30-year-old has not featured<\/a> at all for Chelsea since the 3-3 draw away to West Bromwich Albion<\/a> in September.<\/p>\n

Tom Kershaw, of The Independent<\/a>, reports the La Liga<\/a> side are pursuing the Spanish defender.<\/p>\n

Alonso Out-of-Favour at Chelsea<\/h3>\n

Alonso was substituted at half time during the match at West Brom and has not been seen on the pitch since. With the arrival of England<\/a> left-back Ben Chilwell<\/a> from Leicester City<\/a>, Alonso has found it difficult to break into the team, with Emerson Palmieri<\/a> being the preferred understudy to Chilwell<\/p>\n

Alonso has been struggling to find the form he previously attained when he first joined the club. This has caused him to slip down the pecking order at Chelsea. The lack of minutes surely spells the end for his time in West London.<\/p>\n

Atletico Could Be a Good Fit<\/h3>\n

Alonso\u2019s qualities are there for all to see, however, he is much better suited to playing in a back five, giving him the freedom to get forward and contribute. He has scored 19 goals<\/a> and provided 14 assists in the Premier League<\/a> since joining Chelsea in 2016.<\/p>\n

Simeone usually favours a back four. However, he has used a back five on occasion<\/a> this season, most recently in a 2-0 win against Real Sociedad<\/a> in La Liga. This formation would obviously suit Alonso greatly. It would free him to push further up the pitch where he can be so dangerous.<\/p>\n

Family Affair<\/h3>\n

Marcos Alonso, who has born in Madrid, would not be the first Alonso family member to play for Atletico, with his father Marcos Alonso Pe\u00f1a<\/a> playing for the side before joining Barcelona<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Alonso looks destined to leave Chelsea, but the question is when. In Tom Kershaw’s report, he states that Atleti would look to sign Alonso on loan in the January transfer window. Emerson Palmieri has also attracted interest from the Premier League and abroad but is said to be expected to remain at Stamford Bridge until the summer window at least.<\/p>\n
