Georginio Wijnaldum<\/a> has reportedly asked Liverpool<\/a> for more time to think about his future before deciding whether to accept a new contract offer from the club.<\/p>\n

The Guardian are reporting<\/a> that Liverpool presented their offer to the Dutch midfielder earlier this month, but that Wijnaldum would like a further few days to deliberate over the next step in his career.<\/p>\n

Georginio Wijnaldum Unsure Whether to Accept Liverpool Contract Offer<\/h2>\n

Future in Doubt as Midfielder Will be a Free Agent in the Summer<\/h3>\n

Wijnaldum has a further six months to run on his existing deal with the Premier League<\/a> champions. This means he will be able to talk to foreign clubs as of January if he decides to look elsewhere ahead of next season.<\/p>\n

Crucially, if the player decides to run down his contract, Wijnaldum is thought to have promised Liverpool that he will inform them of this decision before speaking to other clubs in the new year.<\/p>\n

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is hoping to tie the 30-year-old down to a new deal, and repeatedly rejected suggestions<\/a> over the summer that former Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara<\/a> was brought in as a potential replacement for Wijnaldum.<\/p>\n

Wijnaldum Departure Would Leave Glittering Liverpool Legacy<\/h3>\n

Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman<\/a> is a known admirer of Wijnaldum’s and is reportedly interested<\/a> in bringing the Liverpool man to the Nou Camp in the summer.<\/p>\n

Doing so would represent a logical piece of business for the Catalan club, who are suffering significant financial difficulties as well as a need to reinvigorate their squad.<\/p>\n

If Wijnaldum were to swap Liverpool for Barcelona in the future, then he would do so having won the Champions League<\/a> as well as the English top-flight title under Klopp.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the player was part of the PSV Eindhoven side that won the Dutch Eredivisie title in 2015, a triumph that ended Ajax’s four-year-long domination of the competition.<\/p>\n

Wijnaldum moved to the Premier League to join Newcastle United<\/a> in 2015, leaving for Liverpool a year later in a \u00a325 million deal<\/a>.<\/p>\n
