Toby Lock of the MK Citizen<\/a> and Connor Southwell of the Norwich football paper, The Pink Un,<\/a> are both reporting that on-loan forward Carlton Morris<\/a> is close to leaving\u00a0MK Dons<\/a> with a permanent move from his parent club Norwich City<\/a> to Championship side Barnsley<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Carlton Morris is heading towards the final six months of his Norwich City contract and the club want to ensure they receive a fee for the striker. MK Dons manager Russell Martin is disappointed at the prospect of losing the player who has been on loan at the club for the first half of the season but told the MK Citizen that current salary caps mean keeping the player is just not feasible<\/p>\n

“We’d have loved to sign him, and he’d have loved to have stayed but with the salary cap, we cannot compete with a Championship club – that’s the brutal reality,” he said.<\/p>\n

MK Dons Boss Russell Martin Praises Morris\u2019 Attitude<\/h3>\n

Martin went on to explain that he was aware of the talks surrounding a possible move for Morris to Barnsley and also praised the players\u2019 attitude during this period, explaining the reason for leaving him out of the match against Bristol Rovers<\/a> on Boxing Day<\/p>\n

“Norwich have been really transparent and open about it. And credit to him, he was willing to play today but it’s a tough one \u2013 I know what’s at stake for him and his career,” added the Dons boss.<\/p>\n

Martin has said that if any deal falls through then the player will remain with MK Dons until the end of the season but if he does leave as expected he can only thank the player for his efforts during his loan spell<\/p>\n

\u201cI’ll go on record to thank him for his efforts over the last year on and off the pitch. He has been a big part of what we’re doing, and a big character who we will miss.\u201d<\/p>\n

This season, Morris has made 18 appearances in all competitions scoring four goals<\/a> for\u00a0MK Dons but his future now seems destined to be in the Championship with Barnsley.<\/p>\n
