Tottenham Hotspur Women<\/a> have confirmed that Alex Morgan will end her loan spell in January to return to the USA.<\/p>\n

The 31-year-old made the move to North London in a bid to regain fitness having given birth earlier this year.<\/p>\n

She joined on loan until the end of December, with the option to extend it until the end of May 2021. However, this has not been taken up.<\/p>\n

Morgan made five appearances in total for Tottenham Women, four of which came in the Barclays Women’s Super League. She scored two goals during her time in North London, both of which came from the penalty spot.<\/p>\n

Speaking about her departure, Heather Cowan, the Head of Women’s Football at the club, said:<\/a> “We were delighted at the start of the season when Alex chose us as her Club to help regain fitness and take her first steps back into competitive football after giving birth earlier this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt has been a pleasure to have Alex with us during this period and the whole squad has taken a lot from working every day with someone at the top of the women’s game.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe wish Alex all the best for the future both at club and international level as she prepares to return back home with her family. She will always be welcome here at Spurs.\u201d<\/p>\n

Morgan said: \u201cI will be forever grateful to the Club, my team-mates and Spurs supporters for taking such good care of me and my family.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom the moment I arrived in London, I realised I was part of a first-class organisation, one that helped provide me the opportunity to immerse myself back into the game I love.<\/p>\n

Morgan was one of several high-profile players to join Women Super League sides during the summer. Manchester United Women<\/a> side Morgan’s American team-mates Tobin Heath and Christian Press, while Chelsea<\/a> side Pernille Harder<\/a> for a world-record fee.<\/p>\n
