The entire Portsmouth squad will be tested for COVID-19 following further positive tests for the virus, the club has confirmed.<\/p>\n
The news follows the announcement of Jack Whatmough’s positive test<\/a> on December 19.<\/p>\n Despite the confirmation of two more positive Coronavirus tests, the current leaders of League One are yet to see any of their upcoming fixtures postponed.<\/p>\n Several other third tier sides have seen their festive fixtures postponed. Ipswich Town’s trip to Peterborough United yesterday was called off after a Peterborough staff member tested positive for the virus. Several members of the Tractor Boys’ squad are<\/a> now self-isolating themselves after six positive tests.<\/p>\n Bristol Rovers<\/a> and Sunderland have also suffered outbreaks of COVID-19 in their retrospective squads, meaning their next run of games have been cancelled.<\/p>\n A statement on the Portsmouth website reads<\/a>: “Following Jack Whatmough\u2019s recent positive test for Covid-19, players who came into close contact with the defender were also tested.<\/p>\n “These results came back negative. However, two other members of the squad have since complained of feeling unwell and have also tested positive.<\/p>\n “The club have, therefore, taken the decision to have the entire playing squad tested over the next 24 hours.<\/p>\n “Once the results of these tests are returned, we will be able to liaise with the EFL and our forthcoming opponents.”<\/p>\n The individuals in question will now have to self-isolate in adherence to the government guidelines. If further tests are returned as positive it could mean that Kenny Jackett’s side is next in action in the FA Cup on January 9 against Bristol City.<\/p>\n They will potentially be missing what could be a crucial run of fixtures.
