In a season of injuries galore, it is the Liverpool<\/a> academy that has stepped up with 19-year-old Curtis Jones,<\/a> in particular, quickly becoming a key figure in Jurgen Klopp’s starting lineup. His age will surprise many, too, when considering his maturity on the pitch.<\/span><\/p>\n

The fact is, he takes to the Liverpool midfielder like an experienced veteran, when, in reality, is in the early stages of his Premier League career. And, in Liverpool’s last gasp victory against Tottenham Hotspur<\/a>, the scouse-born midfielder took to the spotlight with ease once again.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones Quickly Becoming Undroppable at Liverpool<\/span><\/h2>\n

With the arrival of Thiago Alcantara<\/a> in the summer, Jones’ chances looked to be limited this season before the aforementioned injuries. Even so, when handed the opportunity, Jones has stepped up to perfection- doing what many thought would be impossible by replacing Thiago.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The game against Spurs was just the latest showreel of what the 19-year-old offers to Jurgen Klopp despite his lack of experience, and the stats<\/a> only further add accreditation to this point.<\/span><\/p>\n

The young midfielder completed the most passes, created the second most amount of chances, won the second most areal duals and made the second most interceptions to cap off an all-round performance of real quality.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Most young players would keep it safe, perhaps shying away on the big occasion to guarantee the avoidance of mistakes. Crucially, however, Curtis Jones does the opposite at Liverpool.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Instead of playing it safe, Jones takes calculated risks on the ball, often breaking the opposition press with key passes or marauding solo runs. Even when those around him begin to tire, and fail to perform, Jones stands out as one to watch in a team full of world-class, title-winning, players.<\/span><\/p>\n

Another Young English Midfielder<\/span><\/h3>\n

With the Euros approaching next year, Gareth Southgate will be watching the Premier League play out with each passing week. And, as each week comes and goes, alongside another outstanding performance from Jones, the England manager may have to consider his options.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones will have the likes of Phil Foden<\/a> and Mason Mount<\/a> to compete with for a place, but, if his performance against Spurs is anything to go by, the Liverpool<\/a> man will have no problems getting into Gareth Southgate’s squad next summer.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Already in his Liverpool career, Jones has won the Premier League title- something not many past academy graduates can boast. This season, however, should he add to his medals, it will be down to much of his own input as one of Jurgen Klopp’s key men.<\/span><\/p>\n
