After being cited for violent conduct in the Scottish Premiership<\/a> tie against Dundee United<\/a>, BBC\u00a0Sport <\/a>has reported that Rangers<\/a> accept the two-match ban that has subsequently been handed out to Alfredo Morelos<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Alfredo Morelos<\/a> Given Retrospective Red Card<\/h3>\n

The Colombian striker is dealt with the extended ban retrospectively following an incident at Tannadice on December 13.<\/p>\n

Rangers were 2-1 up in the match when Morelos clashed with Dundee United player Mark Connolly<\/a>, catching him with his elbow.<\/p>\n

Alfredo Morelos initially escaped that feat, after referee Steven MacLean<\/a> deemed the incident to only be worthy of a yellow card, but he has subsequently been hit with a two-match ban. The match<\/p>\n

Violent Conduct<\/h3>\n

A point of contention over the change of punishment is over the fact that the referee saw the incident and because he issued the yellow card, a change to a red card is not possible.<\/p>\n

Whilst this is true under the usual \u2018double jeopardy\u2019 law, in the case of violent conduct there is an exception to the rule and that rule means Morelos will now miss the games against St Mirren<\/a> in the Betfred Cup<\/a> and the Premiership tie against Motherwell<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Boss Gerrard Felt Yellow Card Was Sufficient<\/h3>\n

Following the match, Ranger manager Steven Gerrard<\/a> said:<\/a> “I didn’t see an elbow. If you look at him again, there’s no elbow there.<\/p>\n

“The referee saw it and dealt with it. It was a foul and a yellow card and it’s been dealt with. But if you look at it again, next time I see you you’ll say it wasn’t an elbow.”<\/p>\n

Rangers Accept Two Match Ban<\/h3>\n

Rangers could have appealed the ban at a tribunal set for Thursday, December 17, but a failed appeal would have resulted in an even further extended ban and, in view of this, Rangers have accepted the punishment.<\/p>\n
