Aston Villa<\/a> forward Jack Grealish<\/a> has been banned from driving for nine months and fined over \u00a380,000 in relation to two motoring offences.<\/p>\n

What Happened?<\/h3>\n

The charges relate to two driving offences that occurred earlier this year. The Villa captain pleaded guilty on November 24 to two counts of careless driving, before receiving his convictions on December 15.<\/p>\n

Grealish’s first offence came in March after the midfielder crashed his car in Dickens Heath near Solihull. He damaged two cars in the incident, and when speaking about it in court, the District Judge said that the England international was “slurring his words<\/a>“.<\/p>\n

Following the incident in March, the 25-year-old received a fine from his club.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the offence that Grealish had committed came just days after England went into a national lockdown. Speaking in court, John Bristow, the district judge, said:<\/a> “The offence on March 29 was committed six days after the national coronavirus lockdown was announced.<\/p>\n

“You should have been at home, you do not assert you had any proper reason not to be.<\/p>\n

“You should not have been driving on March 29 – this is a further aggravating feature.”<\/p>\n

His second charge relates to an act of careless driving near to the Aston Villa training ground on October 18. Later that day, Grealish was caught driving at 98 mph in his Range Rover by police.<\/p>\n

The 25-year-old’s lawyer, John Dye, said in court that the midfielder was “deeply ashamed” and “genuinely sorry” for his actions.<\/p>\n

Grealish will now face a nine-month driving ban, and was ordered to pay court costs totalling \u00a3401. Following the completion of his ban, the Villa captain will have to apply for a new driving licence.<\/p>\n

Villa face Burnley<\/a> on Thursday night, before a Midlands derby with rivals West Bromwich Albion<\/a> takes place on Sunday, December 20.<\/p>\n
