Grimsby Town<\/a>\u00a0have confirmed<\/a> that Filipe Morais<\/a> has joined the club on a one and a half year deal until the summer of 2022.<\/p>\n

Former Chelsea Academy Player Signs for Mariners<\/h3>\n

35-year-old winger Filipe Morais has joined Grimsby Town as a free agent and will bring experience to the League Two <\/a>side. Morais started his football career at Premier League Chelsea<\/a>, joining their Academy at just 16 years of age. He struggled to make it into the first team and joined Millwall<\/a> in 2006 after completing a short loan at Milton Keynes Dons.<\/a><\/p>\n

To Scotland and Back Again<\/h3>\n

Filipe Morais\u2019 stay at Millwall came to an end as he headed north of the border signing for Hibernian<\/a> in 2007. The player had two seasons with Hibs before moving onto Inverness<\/a> and then St Johnstone<\/a>.<\/p>\n

2010 saw Morais move back South joining Oldham Athletic <\/a>in 2010. In 2017 he moved to Bolton Wanderers<\/a> and was part of the team that won promotion back to the Championship. Now he will team up with former Bradford City<\/a> teammate James Hanson <\/a>at Grimsby Town.<\/p>\n

Plenty to Offer<\/h3>\n

Speaking to the official Grimsby Town website,<\/a> Morais said he still has plenty to offer. He said: “Although I’m 35, I feel I’ve still got a lot to offer and I feel really good, so I can’t wait to get straight into it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Morais is also looking forward to working with Grimsby manager Ian Holloway. “I’m delighted really, I am really excited to work under the manager”, added Morais. “He’s had an amazing career, I just want to learn from him, you can never stop learning.\u201d<\/p>\n

Morais is fit and available to go into the squad for the home game against Mansfield Town on Saturday, December 12 and Holloway believes the much-travelled winger can add experience to his squad as well as being able to play in several positions: “I’m delighted that he lives so close to us, he’s just what we need at the moment, another senior head, as fit as a flea and he’s ready to go,” said the Grimsby boss.<\/p>\n

“He only came in a couple of days ago and he’s been absolutely outstanding. He can play anywhere across the midfield, but he can also play left wing-back, right wing-back, centre mid or even off the striker.\u201d<\/p>\n
