Liverpool<\/a> are reportedly hoping to start negotiations with Fabinho over a new contract, according to Fabrizio Romano of The Guardian<\/a>. The defensive midfielder has slotted seamlessly into centre-back in recent weeks in the absence of Virgil van Dijk<\/a> and was particularly impressive in Sunday night’s 4-0<\/a> win over Wolverhampton Wanderers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Liverpool Planning New Contract for Fabinho<\/h2>\n

Current Contract<\/h3>\n

Since signing from Monaco in 2018, Fabinho has gone on to become one of the ‘untouchables’ at the club. He was a key player in their run to the 2018\/19 Champions League and the 2019\/20 Premier League title and, with the Reds suffering from injury problems at the back, keeping Fabinho around for the long-term will be a smart piece of business.<\/p>\n

The 27-year-old’s current deal runs until 2023. However, Liverpool want to extend this to either 2025 or 2026, which would also see an increase in his current \u00a3100,000-a-week wages. It is thought that the increase would take the Brazilian to just underneath the top earners at the club.<\/p>\n

Another One Staying?<\/h3>\n

Another midfielder Liverpool are hoping to keep around is Georginio Wijnaldum<\/a>. The Dutchman, who scored the Reds’ second in that win against Wolves, sees his deal run out next summer.<\/p>\n

The 30-year-old has been linked with a move to Barcelona<\/a>, where he would reunite with his former Netherlands national team coach, Ronald Koeman<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Wijnaldum has been at the club since 2016 after he moved from Newcastle United following their relegation to the Championship. Liverpool are hoping to re-start talks with him over the next few weeks.<\/p>\n

The midfielder is another player who has been key to Liverpool’s success in recent years. He scored twice in the historic 4-0 win over Barcelona last year, having only entered the game at half-time.<\/p>\n

In their run to the title last season, he scored four times in 37 games, including in the 5-2 Merseyside Derby win over Everton<\/a>.<\/p>\n
