Danny Ings<\/a> has been encouraged to sign a new contract by Southampton<\/a> manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, with only 18 months remaining on the striker’s current deal.<\/p>\n

The England striker has been in red-hot form since the start of last season. In seven Premier League<\/a> games so far this season, Ings netted five times before suffering a knee injury that has kept him out since November.<\/p>\n

However, following the news that Ings could return to face Brighton & Hove Albion<\/a> on Monday night, Saints boss Hasenhuttl has revealed he has been in regular talks with him over a new deal.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Sky Sports<\/a>, Hasenhuttl said: “It’s normal that you get a situation like he has in a football club, and this is something special I think.<\/p>\n

“I don’t want him to throw this away for a few more monies.<\/p>\n

“I speak to him once or twice a month about this topic. We must concentrate on our job here. I don’t speak to him every week about his contract. It’s not my job.<\/p>\n

“It’s his responsibility. He has to take the decision. Nobody else. He has to take the decision then live with the fact that he did this or that.”<\/p>\n

Quizzed on Ings’ availability to face Brighton, Hasenhuttl responded: “We must have a look. Yesterday was the first time he was training with the team.<\/p>\n

“He looks good. We must look how his body reacts to the training and then we can say more. But it looked good yesterday, yes.”<\/p>\n

The Saints will be looking to return to winning ways when they travel to AMEX Stadium. After throwing away a 2-0 half-time lead to fall to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Manchester United in their last league match.<\/p>\n

Following an excellent start to the season<\/a>, the Saints sit sixth in the Premier League, just four points off the top of the table.<\/p>\n
