Southampton<\/a> defender Jan Bednarek<\/a> has committed his future to the club by signing a new long term contract. The 24-year-old has extended his stay at St Mary’s until the summer of 2025.<\/p>\n

Bednarek Pens Long-Term Deal at St Mary’s<\/h3>\n

Jan<\/u> Bednarek joined Southampton in 2017 from Lech Poznan in a deal worth around \u00a35 million<\/a>. Since, the Poland international, who has earned 27 caps for his country, has turned out 85 times for the Saints, scoring three times.<\/p>\n

Now though, the 24-year-old defender has committed his future by signing a new deal which will keep him with the south coast club until 2025.<\/p>\n

The defender, who is now valued at \u00a313.5 million according to transfermarkt, has become a key part of the Saints defence and has started every game for Southampton this season. During his time at St Mary’s, he has formed partnerships with the likes of Virgil van Dijk<\/a> and Jannik Vestergaard<\/a> in defence.<\/p>\n

What Was Said<\/h3>\n

Speaking to the clubs’ official website<\/a>, Saints boss Ralph Hassenh\u00fcttl said: “I am very happy that Jan has extended his contract. He\u2019s a Southampton player but he is also still young with a lot of potential, so it is good for us to strengthen our commitment with him.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is a good example of someone who has worked hard to establish himself with us and I think he can continue to improve here and be an important player for us in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bednarek added: \u201cI think it\u2019s the next step in my development. I feel like this is the right place for me at the moment, and I can really enjoy my time here.<\/p>\n

\u201cI still see myself as a player who can improve a lot at this place, so there was only one decision for me to sign a new contract and help Southampton to become a better club.\u201d<\/p>\n

It’s been a good season for the Saints both off and on the pitch. In addition to being just four points off the top of the Premier League, Hassenh\u00fcttl has also seen James Ward-Prowse, Oriol Romeu, Shane Long, Will Smallbone, Jake Vokins and Nathan Tella extend their current deals. The manager himself also penned a new deal, providing stability to the clubs backroom staff.<\/p>\n
