Ajax centre-back Perr Schuurs<\/a> could be on his way to Liverpool<\/a> for a fee of around \u00a327 million, according to reports.<\/p>\n

Matt Addison of the Liverpool Echo has reported that Schuurs – who only became a first-team regular at Ajax this season – is potentially the subject of a \u00a327million bed from the reigning Premier League champions.<\/a><\/p>\n

The news comes following a slew of defensive injuries for Jurgen Klopp’s side, which includes long-term absences for centre-backs Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.<\/a><\/p>\n

The signing of Schuurs would therefore make sense, as well as the fact that the 21-year-old is drawing comparisons to ex-Ajax centre-back Matthijs de Ligt<\/a>, who joined Juventus last year for \u00a367 million.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

Dutch football expert Michael Statham told the Liverpool Echo on the ‘Under the Radar’ podcast:<\/a> “I really like Schuurs. He fits the role of de Ligt and has filled the void that he left a year-and-a-half ago.<\/p>\n

“He is a centre back who is strong, with really good skills on the ball, who is brave and takes risks.<\/p>\n

“You can see that Schuurs has obviously taken a lot from De Ligt and he is probably going to play in England or Germany because of his build and the way he is on the ball.”<\/p>\n

Schuurs at Ajax<\/h3>\n

Schuurs endured a difficult start to life with Ajax, initially playing in the second division with their ‘B’ team. However, this season has seen the defender push on significantly, as he has formed a strong partnership with fellow centre-back Daley Blind.<\/p>\n

Should he make the move to Liverpool, it is likely Schuurs would have to undergo a similar transition process according to Statham: “Is he going to be a Liverpool regular in 12 months? I would say no, but that doesn\u2019t mean he can\u2019t become a Liverpool regular should he sign for them – he can definitely go on and play [at the level needed] for a top team in the Premier League.”<\/p>\n
