Former Huddersfield Town<\/a> manager Danny Cowley is interested in becoming the new Sunderland<\/a> boss. The Black Cats dismissed Phil Parkinson<\/a> on Sunday and are in the hunt for a new man in the dugout. Cowley spoke to the Southend Echo<\/a> and confirmed his interest in becoming the next Sunderland manager.<\/p>\n

Interest in the Role<\/h3>\n

Cowley, who guided Lincoln City<\/a> from non-league to League One and won the EFL Trophy, has been out of work since leaving Huddersfield. However, he has confirmed his interest in the Sunderland<\/a> job.<\/p>\n

When asked by the Southend Echo if he would like to take charge at the Stadium of Light, he said: \u201cSure. Sunderland are a huge football with a wonderful\u00a0history<\/b><\/span><\/a>. For whatever reason they find themselves in League One but we will just have to wait and see.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cowley, who works alongside his brother Nicky at each of the clubs he has managed, added: \u201cWe love football and of course we miss football.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re some enjoying some time off and it\u2019s been a really good opportunity for us to go away and study.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re continuing to try and improve and we\u2019re working on our pro licence at the moment. We\u2019re trying to make the most of this time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Success at Lincoln City<\/h3>\n

Danny and his brother Nicky guided Lincoln<\/a> from the National League to League One during a three-and-a-half-year stint with the club. The Imps won the title in both the National League and League Two. During that time, City also reached the final of the EFL Trophy, defeating Shrewsbury Town<\/a> to lift the cup.<\/p>\n

Cowley also oversaw a fairytale FA Cup run to the quarter-finals. The Imps, then a non-league side, shocked Ipswich Town<\/a>, Brighton and Hove Albion<\/a> and Burnley<\/a> on their way to defeat at Arsenal<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Huddersfield Town<\/h3>\n

During September 2019, the Cowley brothers departed Lincoln for Championship side Huddersfield. However, they were sacked at the end of the season despite securing the clubs place in the Championship and winning the Manager of the Month award for October.<\/p>\n
