Everton<\/a> left-back Lucas Digne<\/a> could be set for two months out of action after picking up an ankle injury in training, according to Paul Joyce of The Times<\/a>. Everton are reportedly awaiting the severity of the injury amid fears the fullback will need surgery.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Should the news be confirmed, it will be a major blow for Carlo Ancelotti’s side who often rely on the Frenchman as a vital member of the starting lineup.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Digne Could Miss Two Months Through Ankle Injury<\/span><\/h2>\n

Without the Frenchman in their side, Everton do not look anywhere near their best. Just recently, when without the Frenchman through suspension, the Toffees slumped to a disappointing 2-1 loss against Newcastle<\/a>. In the game he received the red card, Everton also struggled- coming away eventual 2-0 losers against Southampton.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

From those two games alone, it is clear that, without Digne, Everton will struggle. If the fears of a two-month absence do come true, Digne’s injury could become season-defining for Ancelotti’s side.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Frenchman, in those two months, would miss the busiest part of the season in the festive period in which the Toffees face a plethora of challenges.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The left-back would miss games against Chelsea<\/a>, Leicester City<\/a>, Arsenal<\/a>, Manchester City<\/a> and an EFL Cup quarter-final against Manchester United.\u00a0<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Potential Replacements\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

In his earlier absence through suspension, Ancelotti opted for Niels Nkounkou at left-back, but, in truth, the fullback failed to have the same impact as his missing countryman.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This time around, with Digne’s absence potentially more long term, the Everton boss may turn to Ben Godfrey who has filled in on the opposite flank already this season. With Coleman now back and slotted back into his right-back position, Ancelotti could utilise Godfrey in the left-back role.<\/span><\/p>\n

The former Norwich City man has the chance to prove his versatility once more and step up for Everton.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
