Former Sunderland<\/a> winger Duncan Watmore<\/a> has signed a short-term contract with Championship side Middlesbrough<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Watmore Joins Middlesbrough After Training With Warnock’s Side For Several Weeks<\/h2>\n

Former England U21 International Left Sunderland Last Season After Seven Years On Wearside<\/h3>\n

Speaking to the club website, Boro boss Neil Warnock expressed his delight<\/a> at the signing – but warned that Watmore had work to do to warrant a longer contract:<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m ever so pleased we\u2019ve been able to get him on board.<\/p>\n

“He\u2019s done very well in training and he\u2019s a smashing lad. He fits in really well in the dressing and I\u2019m hoping that he can give us a bit of something different.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s only a short-term contract and it\u2019s up to him to show us that he deserves a longer one.”<\/p>\n

Watmore’s departure from Sunderland saw the club release its longest-serving player, with the winger having spent seven years at the club.<\/p>\n

Since then, Watmore has been spending his time to focus on his academic work. During lockdown, he completed his two-year master’s degree in International Business, Leadership and Management at the University of York.<\/p>\n

Watmore had spoken previously of his desire to get back into the professional game<\/a>, now that his studies are complete:<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s been a lot of hard work but really satisfying. It adds another string to my bow for later down the line.<\/p>\n

“I feel as fit as I\u2019ve ever felt. I have used this period to seriously step up my fitness game. My knee feels stronger than ever and I feel my body is in the best position it has been since before my injury.<\/p>\n

“I genuinely believe that I\u2019ve still got a lot left to give. I am excited to prove to people that I can get back to where I was before.”<\/p>\n
