Blackburn Rovers Ladies had to fight hard to earn a 0-0 draw against Liverpool Women<\/a> in Sunday\u2019s FA Women\u2019s Championship encounter at the Sir Tom Finney Stadium, Bamber Bridge.<\/p>\n

On Women\u2019s Football Weekend with the men’s domestic action taking a hiatus, the women’s game took centre stage.<\/p>\n

Rovers were unchanged from the side that beat London Bees last weekend whilst Ashley Hodson<\/a> replaced Jade Bailey<\/a> for the visitors.<\/p>\n

Liverpool Rue Missed Chances<\/h2>\n

Opportunities Lost for Liverpool in Women’s Championship<\/h3>\n

Vicky Jepson\u2019s Liverpool<\/a> side made a confident start and perhaps should have gone in front early on. The incoming Hodson’s effort was deflected just wide before Rachel Furness<\/a> saw her volley glanced agonisingly past the post.<\/p>\n

Liverpool’s Danish striker Amalie Thestrup<\/a> almost broke the deadlock moments later but for her effort to be saved smartly before looping behind for a corner.<\/p>\n

Winger Rinsola Babajide was a constant threat as the 22-year-old switched sides and caused mayhem amongst the host’s defence, albeit ultimately to no avail.<\/p>\n

With just minutes remaining Babajide fought off two defenders to go clear in on goal. However, the attempted finish was saved once more by the outstretched leg of Alex Brooks. Easily the biggest chance of the match was squandered in that moment.<\/p>\n

Stand Out Performers<\/h3>\n

Truthfully, Gemma Donnelly\u2019s Rovers had goalkeeper Brooks to thank for their point and the clean sheet on the day. The 25-year-old was in inspired form as she denied Babajide and co on numerous occasions. The host’s stopper was rightfully named player of the match as she earned the clean sheet.<\/p>\n

The Reds side was full of positive performers as midfielders Babajide, Furness, and Melissa Lawley<\/a> all caught the eye.<\/p>\n

A point apiece meant Liverpool stay third in the Women’s Championship three points behind Durham. Blackburn meanwhile continued their positive start and lie sixth from their opening seven matches.<\/p>\n
